Abstract:
This paper presents the design of a common radome for both receiving (K-band) and transmitting (Ka-band) beamforming antenna systems. A transmission loss factor is considered for both K- and Ka-bands, with a fixed radome distance from the antenna and a consistent dielectric material constant, to optimize the radome thickness. Preliminary results are provided for the K-/Ka-band antenna systems, serving as the foundation for the common radome design. Experimental outcomes indicate that the K-/Ka-band phased array antenna with the radome exhibits only a 1-degree beam steering angle deviation and a gain reduction of approximately 1.1 dB when scanning ±45° in both frequency bands, compared to the antenna system without the radome.
