Abstract:
A patent pending metamaterial based coil using artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) reflector is proposed for 7-Tesla MRI applications. The coil is designed at 300 MHz with a diameter of 30 mm and the AMC is composed of a number of extremely miniaturized cells with lumped capacitors. Compared with the conventional surface coil, the proposed coil exhibits directional magnetic field distribution and much enhanced magnetic field intensity. The images of a phantom show that the penetration distance of the proposed coil is 2.28 times of the conventional coil.
