Abstract:
A super high gain planar log-periodic dipole array (PLPDA) antenna loaded with novel non-resonant metasurface fed by sub-strate integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed in this paper. The metasurface unit cell is designed of a half open metal ring etched onto both sides of a piece of substrate. The planar metasurface unit cell with retrieved effective permittivity of 2 and refraction coefficient of 1.5 can be considered as one type of non-resonant structure, which features are low loss and wideband. The non-resonant metasurface is inserted in between the clamped-mode dipoles of the PLPDA antenna for gain improvement. The pro-posed high gain PLPDA antennas with/without metasurface are designed and verified by simulation, fabrication, and measurement. The proposed antenna exhibits a high gain up to 10.5 dBi and a gain-fluctuation enhancement of 2 dB from 27 GHz to 40 GHz.
