Abstract:
The increasing scarcity of resources and its environmental impact necessitate a transformative shift in the economy. Regulatory responses, like the EU Green Deal and Circular Economy Action Plan, emphasize sustainability strategies, promoting circular economy and industrial symbiosis to extend resource life cycles. However, effective information sharing among companies faces challenges due to data sensitivity. Publicly accessible waste-to-resource databases offer a solution by identifying potential synergies while safeguarding sensitive data. Despite challenges in availability and representation, an integrated knowledge graph database for industrial symbiosis is developed. Analyzing 829 transactions from historical resource exchanges reveals top supplying and receiving industries. This comprehensive knowledge supports decision-making and collaboration. Case studies for Braunschweig and Singapore highlight potential synergies, showcasing the practical application of the developed database. This research contributes to addressing challenges in information sharing and accessibility in the realm of industrial symbiosis.
