"Impact of Sea States to the Aerodynamic Performance of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine." Paper presented at the The 34th International Ocean and Polar Engineering Conference, Rhodes, Greece, June 2024.
Abstract:
In this work, the impact of current, wave and coupled of the two conditions on a floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) has been investigated by studying the aerodynamic force under various sea states. An engineering tool is adopted in the study to assess the performance of the floating system under operating condition at constant rotating speed. The procedure of setting up the case from scratch including generation of airfoil coefficients and producing potential-flow solution is described in detail. The numerical framework presented in this work will facilitate the process of design, optimization as well as the location selection for FOWT farms.
