Abstract:
The use of nanotechnology in surface engineering allows for precise tailoring of surface properties to achieve an improved performance of the final product. We present and discuss recent research on surface modification approaches where nanostructured materials are designed and employed for the purpose of modifying surface reflectance to achieve either highly reflective or highly anti-reflective surfaces, depending on the application. A significant emphasis is placed on the applications in energy sustainability to demonstrate how tailoring of surface reflectance can contribute to address our energy consumption woes.
