It was found that the coercivity of the FePt/Fe exchange-coupled granular bilayer reduced after in
situ annealing at elevated temperature. With the assistance of Landau-Liftshitz-Gilbert (LLG)
micromagnetic simulation, the possible reasons that may lead to the coercivity change, such as the
formation of magnetically graded interface and the Fe soft layer capping configuration, were
investigated separately. It was found that magnetically graded interface resulted from
interface diffusion did not have significant influence on the coercivity. However, the coercivity
was reduced dramatically when the Fe magnetically soft layer extended more in the lateral
direction.
